- Your opinion on art?
I heard it said that a person forms their opinion of art based on emotions left by past personal experiences.
- Where are your roots?
I grew up wandering the woods and stream banks of northeastern Kansas. The natural world is by no means symmetrical but yet maintains a simple constant balance, this is the theme that runs unconsciously though my work.
- Art as jewelry?
I approach art jewelry from the standpoint that even though it is art, it is also jewelry and needs to meet the demands of being worn. The act of wearing a piece of jewelry makes it very unique and personal to that person. It will be seen from many angles and in many different types of light, over time it will take on tones and patinas that give an air of recreating itself.
- Which is your favorite technique?
I like the whole process of creating a piece of jewelry from the start of drawing the crude sketches, alloying metals, pouring ingots, rolling sheets, pulling wire, and polishing for the final time - I like it all!
- Does a piece always turn out as planned?
I try to be fluid enough to recognize those unexpected outcomes that result in a texture or a pleasing curve that makes the finished piece more of a creative relationship between myself, the metal and the stone or enamel.
